We work out of 40 underprivileged communities and have two of our own schools. The VIDYA School Gurgaon is a role model school – CBSE affiliated, K to 12, with excellent faculty, academic, sports and cultural instructions and outstanding facilities, including a robotics lab! It has over 700 students enrolled from the Gurgaon slums. Over the past three decades VIDYA has endeavored to provide outstanding holistic education to children from less privileged backgrounds. We have active, thriving programs in Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune. VIDYA is an NGO that focuses on education and empowerment for the country’s most vulnerable populations: it’s underprivileged women, youth and children. The singer-composer also runs the Shankar Mahadevan Academy. Last year, Shankar made his acting debut with the Marathi film ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusali’, for which the trio also created music. Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy also bagged the award for ‘Best Music Direction’ for the movie ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’. He is a three-time recipient of the National Award in the category of ‘Best Male Playback Singer’. He studied music under Marathi composer Shrinivas Khale and has trained in Indian classical - both Hindustani and Carnatic - styles. Shankar has also lent his voice to several Kannada film tracks.
